About The Author

Devonah Blackwell (1967-)

Born in Ohio, and raised from the age of four in flint, Michigan, Devonah Blackwell has been dabbling in art since the age of 12, when she tried her hand at a caricature of superman in the popular comic Madd magazine, and created instead "Superdude"----afro and all. She continued honing her skills through her teen years, spending sometimes eight hour stretches just drawing; in the beginning cartoons, and then eventually, more realistic renderings from photos and magazines. While Blackwell always knew as a teenager she wanted to create art for a living, circumstances dictated a two-year stint in the U.S. Army overseas after high school graduation.

After getting out of the military and giving birth to a son, she enrolled in a small liberal arts university in Saginaw, Michigan, majoring in fine arts. Even though Blackwell has had formal education, she feels that the majority of her skill and inspiration is divine, not academic. Emphatically believing that her talent is really the creator's work, she asserts she is just the pencil, pen, paintbrush---or whatever medium the creator happens to be using at the time. The work that is created comes through her but is not of her, and this keeps her humble.

Although Blackwell's dream of one day publishing her own greeting card line hasn't yet been realized, she is content at this time just expanding her talent and hopes that people continue to enjoy it as much as she enjoys being a part of creating it.
